I know it appears sad that my first post upon joining is to mention that my book PRINCES AMONGST MEN: JOURNEYS WITH GYPSY MUSICIANS is now available on Kindle but it's due to said book that I'm a member of Khetanes and the Kindle edition is updated to 2013 and has added interviews with Sofi Marinova and Ivo Papasov - as well as my thoughts on Balkan Beats and "Gypsy Punk" which both rode the wave of interest in Balkan Gypsy music. I hope you enjoy the Kindle edition and I promise my next post will be less self-serving!

Dear Garth,
In arts we all depend on our personal experiences. The inspiration in art does not only come from our imagination but also from friends, sad or happy relationships, good and bad luck in our own life. Expressing our feelings in written, images, sounds, paint or dance, has nothing self-serving. It is the artistic way to communicate. And being herd animals, we like to communicate and share our thoughts and emotions with other people.
That is how we learn to understand each other. There is nothing bad about that, because so much misery and injustice are based on misunderstandings!
The best way to expose prejudice and stereotypes, is informing people. And the best information can be given through art, because art is more than facts. It enables people to put themselves in somebody else's position and mind.
Hopefully the Major Groups on Khetanes will increase much faster. The Literature group might become a huge library and, like most of the other groups, a source of information.
Many thanks for joining!
Els
Thank you, Garth!
