call for participation > artistic cooperation project : One Land, Many Faces

We are a French theatre company called La Transplanisphère, whose artistic director is Bruno Freyssinet, and we produce international cooperation projects addressing geopolitical topics.

We are currently developing an artistic and civil society project: “ One Land, Many Faces” for 2013.  The aim of this project is to confront the points of view of different divided countries: different groups of people having shared or sharing an internal conflict, be it resolved or not. By making citizens and artists from different countries confront their vision on this theme, La Transplanisphère hopes to provoke a new theatrical form and thought.

For this cultural and international cooperation project, the parnters we are in search in Europe consist of individuals (artists, authors, academics) and organisations (artistic companies, cultural associations, theaters, foundations, universities, etc.) who may be interested in our project. We are therefore contacting the Kethanes network because we believe this project might concern the Rom people as people of Europe considered as one ensemble.

Our company is already currently working on an internationally cooperative artistic project called, Rec>On. It is an epitome of the type of projects that the company undertakes, brings together 4 countries—France, Germany, Armenia, and Turkey—to address the question of reconciliation.  This project has convened artists, representatives from civil society and youth from 4 countries all assembled in Berlin, Paris, Istanbul, and Erevan.  It incorporates the writing and conception of a theatrical show implicating artists from each country, the development of artistic workshops for students, the filming of a documentary on the project, as well as numerous interviews of the participants and personalities from civil society linked to the topic.

Rec>ON is sponsored by different French, German, Turkish, and Armenian institutions and primarily by The Culture Program of the European Union.

The new project “One Land, Many Faces” is also a project of international cooperation. It will be founded on a partnership with South Africa and will be devoted to the theme of civil coexistence of peoples sharing a common history and territory.

Spain, Ireland, Belgium, the Balkans countries, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Cyprus, Turkey, and France are among the many potential European countries that the company has invited to participate (the situation of the Romani peoples in Europe being also a point of interest.)

Through writers in residence meetings, the project will invite novelists or playwrights to write monologues inspired by a situation in a participant country that is not their own.  A show, springing from those crossed participant visions, would then be created based on testimony-monologues and staged by artists coming from the participant countries.  Other progressions of the project would include a publication of the assembled texts, the production of a documentary chronicling the stages of the project, and artistic workshops with youth from each country.

Our hope is that through this international cooperation experience, we will launch an avant-garde dialogue generating novel perspectives on the relations between people from shared territories, nations, and/or countries.

In order to realize this project, we must response to The Culture Program of the European Union offer whose deadline is in early May 2012 (Programme 1.3.5 with les Pays Tiers managed by l’agence EACEA).

If you are interested in joining our project, we invite you to contact us.  We are, of course, available should you have any questions or desire additional information.

What exactly are you looking for? Writers, actors, stories, theater companies, musicians, film directors?

What do you want your volunteers to do?
