INVITATION TO ROMA PAINTERS

to participate in the Bódvalenke Fresco Village project

A centre of art unique in Europe is in the making in Bódvalenke, North Hungary: a tremendous open-air exhibition of European Roma painting. So far, 13 monumental works have been completed, by Hungarian Roma painters. To see and learn more about the project, please visit www.bodvalenke.eu.

This time, we are inviting Roma painters from all over Europe. The task is challenging: the surfaces to be painted are the walls of peasant houses (dimensions: 4 meters x 18 to 28 meters… there is one wall that is 36 meters long), which may require an approach different from that applied when painting a canvas.

We provide paint, brushes, board and lodging and cover travelling expenses and a grant of around EUR 1500, depending on the size of the mural. We know that this is very little in comparison to the artistic value created – but we sincerely hope that you will recognise the importance of the cause and accept participation under these conditions. We can assure you that painting in Bódvalenke will be a great experience in your lives.

We kindly request interested painters to contact Eszter Pásztor (e-mail: epasztor@enternet.hu, phone: +36-30/989-5070) and to spread the news among Roma painters of your acquaintance who might not use the internet.

If  i understand right, not many painters did not react. We sent it via Romani Studies to many people in the CZ. But what i could do is to write tomorow short article about this in Czech and publish on Romany news server www.romea.cz. I will publish it even on the english version in english and we will see. Cause we have many and many painters over here - and in Slovakia.

Hi Eszter, so i put it as the main news for today to the http://www.romea.cz/ (more than 2.000 people read it daily). I asked my colleague to put it as a main to the english version of the news service. Hopefully this wii help.
