Romany Dance Summer School

Our Romany Dance Summer School will acquaint you over those three days and in six different workshops with the dancing arts, the traditions and the history of the Eastern European Roma, commonly called Gypsies.

Workshop sessions are held from 1030 � 1730 Friday and Saturday while on Sunday sessions will start at 0930 and will finish by 1630, to allow those that are from outside to be able to get back home in time.

Your instructors, aside from KATJUSHA, will be ANNA DEBICKA, the „Queen of the colorful skirts”, as both her students and the organizers call her, as well as RADOSLAWA („RADA”) BOGUSLAWSKA (www.radadanceart.pl).
Experience two entirely different dancers, who will help you to broaden your dance repertoire.
All three artists are united by their love of dancing and the engagement for the culture of the Roma, including work with the Polish Gypsy Theater „TERNO”.
Come discover and experience first hand one of the most attractive dances in which folklore and classical stage dance merge.

SWS 1: Out of India and into the world ...
Our introduction to the dances of the Roma, their origins and their culture and of how many of those dances have found their way onto the stages of Russia.
Aside from learning and trying some of the important basics and the chance to ask questions you will also be treated to a small &„Gypsy Show” to get you into the mood.

This romantic choreography is also great without the voluptuous skirts as the most important accessory here is a large shoulder scarf...

Sunday, August 5, 2012 = 0930-1130 (2 hours)
SWS 5: MAGIC GIPSY WINGS 2
Delicate hand moves, elegant flowing movements of the arms, and special shaking movements of the shoulders, together with a proud upright bearing are important elements of the majority of all Roma dances and also of those performed on stage.
