The commemoration includes:
- A ceremonial site meeting for the Roma Team of the Joint Government and National and Ethnic Minorities Committee dedicated to the memory of the Roma victims of WWII (Krakow, 1 August 2011).
- International seminar - "The Roma Genocide - Remembrance and Education for the Future", with the participation of specialists from selected European states (including Poland, Germany, Slovakia and Austria), dedicated to presenting knowledge about the Forgotten Holocaust and issues surrounding the use of tragic historical events in education to combat phenomena of discrimination, xenophobia and racism in today's Europe. The seminar will be accompanied by a website presentation concerning the Roma genocide, developed by the European Council and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe. - Ceremony at the memorial to Roma and Sinti killed at Auschwitz-Birkenau. (Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, 2 August 2011).
The culmination of the commemorations marking Roma and Sinti Genocide Remembrance Day, organised on the initiative of the Roma Team of the Joint Government and National and Ethnic Minorities Committee, will be a joint ceremony at the memorial to Roma and Sinti killed at Auschwitz-Birkenau, organised on 2 August with the participation of the Roma Team of the Joint Government and National and Ethnic Minorities Committee, participants of the conference on the Roma Holocaust, participants of the Project to Commemorate the Liquidation of the "Zigeunerlager" (Roma camp) at Auschwitz-Birkenau, organised by the ternYpe European Roma Youth Network and special guests invited to the ceremony, including politicians, government officials, members of parliament and representatives of Roma communities from many European Union states.
The event is to be preceded by a resolution of the Polish Parliament establishing 2 August as the official Roma and Sinti Genocide Remembrance Day.
Roma and Sinti Genocide Remembrance Day commemorations are organised by the Government Plenipotentiary for Equal Treatment, the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, the Provincial Governor of Lesser Poland and the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, in cooperation with representatives of the Roma community.
