There was a great deal of tension in the village when Ferenc painted this picture. There is the Gypsy Christ in the centre, with all the people of Bódvalenke behind him: the moneylender's hearless wife, the great manipulater, the prostitute with the broken face, those who kill with their wagging tongue, those who would not want see, hear or tell... There is also the painter himself, with the horn of plenty above him, of which children only drop... There they are in all their misery and sorrow, crying out for acceptance
