Hi all,
I just wanted to write a very quick post and share my experiences of International Roma Day here in Scotland. I am a resident of Glasgow and I was part of a team of political activists who went out into the neighborhood (called Govanhill) where the majority of Roma live (3000-4000 approx). - we handed out chocolates, flyers and flowers and just generally tried to bring a smile to peoples faces, both Roma and non-Roma indiscriminately. This endevour was aimed at letting the local Roma know that we know they are here, we appreciate their culture, we welcome them and that they are a valued addition to our community.
I wanted to share this as testament, as evidence to a growing movement of people like us who will stand in defiance against all forms of hatred, racism and oppression. Together, we will make things better. Together we will erode ignorance and prejudice.
Ash Devlesa,
Omar
