Pre-launch of RomaReact.org – mapping online platform challenging stereotypes and prejudices Roma people face in today´s Europe

ERGO Network pre-launched unique website RomaReact.org at the occasion of the Day of Europe on May 9, 2012. RomaReact.org is an interactive multimedia mapping platform building a global online community seeking social change and justice by engaging both Roma and non-Roma to share their stories and report on Roma realities to challenge stereotypes and prejudices.

RomaReact is made for an by its users: “RomaReact is about us. We are people - both Roma and non-Roma - who want to shape the public debate on Roma inclusion. We want our voices to be heard. We are connecting through RomaReact,  an interactive multimedia mapping platform that allows us to share everyday Roma realities and to  challenge the stereotypes and prejudices that Roma face.”

The information gathered to RomaReact.org will be used to assess the impact of Roma inclusion policies and will help to visualize daily anti-Gypsyism towards decision makers and the general public at the local and European level by providing the tools and skills to share their testimonies from the field. RomaReact.org serves as a platform where different social networking and social media applications are combined to enable data collection, data sharing and dissemination. The base of the website is the "Ushahidi" open source mapping program. Ushahidi, meaning "testimony" in Swahili, was initially developed in 2008 to map violence in Kenya after the post-election fallout.

RomaReact is built on the experiences of the ERGO Network and its members and friends, who focus primarily on Roma grassroots empowerment and mobilization. Together, we can promote our activities and events. We are looking forward to yours!

RomaReact.org is providing you with English content, first localization will be in Albania. Stay tuned, it is coming soon.

Dear Gabriela,

What about involving RomaReact in the RTT programme? What about the presentation? It is a very serious topic, but some humour in the approach is also welcome, I think. Why? Because most of the prejudice is rediculous. I believe that making (non Roma) people laugh about stereotypes is very effective...

Have a nice weekend,

Els
