Hello!
My name is Nathaniel Grann. I am photojournalist living the DC metropolitan area and am currently working on a photo project with the Corcoran College of Art & Design around the lives and culture of Romani Americans and Canadians. I'm very curious to see how Romani Americans and Canadians are treated within North America as well as the cultural traditions within context of North American culture, if possible to even contextualize such contrasting cultures.
It…

It was a great day of april, I went on a trip to mountains, on the way I saw some smoke coming from a valley. I stepped out of the car and as I got closer to the edge of the road, I saw in the valley a great gypsy camp. I had my camera with me and I decided to get down in the valley. I got closer to the camp, suddenly all the children came to me, I had a fantastic day with them, I stayed in their tents, they gave me food and drink. I have eat with them cabbages made in pot, and polenta, I…

VON ARMIN KNAUER
REUTLINGEN.

Novy Bydžov is a small town of 7000 some 100 km east of Prague. It's mayor, Mr.Pavel Louda, has decided to combat so-called gypsy problem after alleged rape has been committed by member of their Roma community. He has put up a declaration, titled "Gypsies have raped; the city is preparing specific measures." on official town's website. This document has became a pretext for nationalist DSSS party to organize a march on February 12, 2011. Despite numerous protest from human rights and Roma…

On January 26th 2011 both the German Bundestag and the European parliament
observed the 66th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, a date that celebrates the
end of the Holocaust or, in Romanes, the Porrajmos, in which an estimated one to two
million Romani perished. This marks the first time the Romani nation has been included
in the ceremonies. At last we commemorate a multi-ethnic genocide that for decades was
forgotten, if not denied.
While the…

Reference from Edinburg
Sometimes it's easy to forget how international the Fringe really is when you succumb to the temptation of only seeing English-speaking performances. 'A Gypsy Prayer For The South', the first Gypsy opera-musical from the Balkans, could be a way of jolting you out of this Anglo-centricity, as the cast combine dance, music and singing to give the audience a real feel of the traditional Roma culture. Though only about half of the performance was in English, it is…
