*** Julienne Metbach - " Mona " ( English ):
Coming from a circus family Sinti-Manouches, contortionist from the age of three, Mona lived in a vardo ( wooden Gypsy caravan ) and then later in a caravan in France and Belgium, and drew as a child in the sawdust of the circus ring or on the damp misty windows.

In the end I decided to approach my review by structuring it around several questions that presented themselves as I was reading.
The first question was of course, why this book? I first chose Bart McDowell's "Gypsies. Wanderers of the…

World Artists Initiative "Khetanes" started its website in October 2010. The site was initiated by Els de Groen, writer, poet, journalist and former Member of the European Parliament (2004-2009), where Romani issues were one of her priorities. In less than a month, 100 artists and scholars joined the website. Many more would follow. September 2014, we exceeded 1000 members…

today at the Best Sinti camp I was very proudly shown an official paper certificate on which an Treaty-to-preserve-Immaterial-Cultural-Heritage was drawn at the initiative of UNESCO and ratified by our Dutch government to give "woonwagencultuur" an official status. This will be done by charting out Immaterial Heritage in the National Inventory and helping communities to pass on their traditions to generations to come.
As this treaty was a long time in the making my feeling is that…

The exhibition of paintings of manele musicians, that will last until 8 July 2014, caused a stir in Romanian press and social media. The director of the…

There were 16 bands, but quite easily it could have been 20. That big was the enthusiasm of musicians to contribute to the benefit concerts at the first Roma-Ember Against Racism Festival in the Alte Kaserne in Zürich, even if they had to travel 10 hours or more.
The Guitar…
