ANTI-DEFAMATION, Major Group

ANTI-DEFAMATION (formerly IRADL, International Romani Anti Defamation League) respectfully advocates human rights for Roma across the globe by identifying abuses and redirecting offenders with relevant Khetanes resources.

Proposed projects:

a. Collaborates with all MAJOR GROUPS to maintain current menu of Khetanes resources to present as needed to members, the public, even offenders;

b. Gathers and shares with members best practices and research for conflict resolution and non-violent communication;

c. Identifies current human rights abuses (e.g. MBFGW, American Gypsies, column Zsolt Bayer) and applies non-violent communication to confront the offenders.

I had promised to post something earlier about Miley Cyrus' "Gypsy Hearts" Tour. I have not yet written a letter, but I know that Bill Bila has and perhaps he will post it or give us permission to post it here. For those of you who would like to educate Miss Miley about why she should not use the name of an ethnic group as a romantic stereotype to promote her work:

Here's the link to her concert dates and media: http://worldtourdates.info/miley-cyrus.html

And here are addresses for her agent, manager, and publicist:

I wonder if we can write a letter from the group using our logo? Does anyone have time to draft one? I confess I am swamped.

Dear all,

I think Bill's letter is quite good. Perhaps if someone from the IRADL and another from...the new name (I'm still working on remembering the new name) then that should do it. Any private letters would be good as well.

Gotta run! Talk to you at 4, Glenda.

Dear all, sarenge,

against the announcement to close our cause "Artists Initiative against Romaphobia and Antiziganism" on June 1st, the cause has been closed down this afternoon. I tried to reach as much members as possible, which was very difficult, because causes as well as facebook limits the number of mails or messages you are allowed to send. I was able to come from now to beginning of march when I had stop due to the limit this noon. When I came back this evening the cause was gone. I therefore ask you all, who haven´t joined the new cause we had established ("World Artists for Roma Rights") http://www.causes.com/causes/614362-world-artists-for-roma-rights yet, please join it now and please invite your friends respectively the people you have invited before. Thank you for your help. Najis tumenge! Viola

Mario Williams, Ronald Lee, Ian Hancock and others are involved in spreading this petition against "My Big Fay Gypsy Wedding." They are developing a class action suit against the producers for their racist depictions and outright falsehoods about Romani Culture. Please, please sign!

Corporate sponsors of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding (MBFGW) are listed below, as well as contact information for Discovery/TLC, the network that airs it. I was so surprised while viewing my first episode last night that as a romni I am not "allowed" to work outside the home, that I almost thought I must have been mistaken all my life.

Ane now they want to make an American version.

My friend Mario Williams wrote this script to be used when calling Discovery to tell them exactly what we think of this idea. I just did. Please join me:

Call (240) 662-8909

This is the answering machine and you can leave a detailed message.
FRIENDS, THIS IS THE OPPORTUNITY - NO DOUBT, THE ONLY ONE - TO HAVE YOUR
PROTESTS HEARD BEFORE THEY PROCEED WITH PRODUCTION.

Here is the gist of the message I left, and please feel free to use the
talking points:

Hello, my name is ________ and my telephone number is __________. I am
calling regarding your planned production for a U.S. version of "My Big Fat
Gypsy Wedding". I myself am/am not Rom, or Gypsy, but I am involved in a
strong Roma activist group here in the United States. Several of our
spokespeople have contacted Firecracker Films to express our dismay at the racial
offensiveness of this program. Firecracker Films is aware of the
implications of portraying an ethnic group in such an outrageously inaccurate and
bigoted manner. I hope and assume that the Discovery Channel is not aware
of our efforts and would not proceed if you were. We would like a
representative from the Discovery Channel to speak with one of the heads of our
group. I am going to share this number with my colleagues, so I imagine you
will be receiving a number of calls like this. We are organizing boycotts of
the Discovery Channel and are gearing up for a publicity campaign to
highlight the serious problems with your show. We hope you will contact us
before we reach this point. Thank you very much.
