Dear Viola,

If you have time, you could translate part of the German into English. All members need to know what the confident and personal friend of Prime-Minister Viktor Orbán has written on 5 January 2013, in his column in the Magyar Hirlap!

Every day I read more and more of this kind of thing. I don't know how to address it. We can't send letter after letter to every individual who is racist and bigoted and professes this in public (as the two above). I doubt that writing to Dr. Ileana Johnson Paugh (the Canada Free Press  writer) would change her opinion (though should anyone want to, her email address is ileana@canadafreepress.com)

I just don't know anymore.

(…) The majority of Gypsies [note: translating Zigeuner as Gypsy because it is obviously meant in a derogatory way] is not suited to living in community. Not suited to live amongst humans. These Gypsies are animals, and behave like animals. They immediately want to copulate/fuck with anybody they see. When they encounter resistance they murder. They void themselves/shit where and when it overcomes them [or: when and where they want]. When they feel restrained in that, they murder. What they see, they want to have. If they don't get it immediately, they take it and murder. These Gypsies are incapable of any communication which can be called human. At best, inarticulate noises emerge from their animal skulls, and the only thing they understand in this miserable world is violence.

(…) Look at this rat who stabbed Gergó Sávoly on Facebook, and at his cronies [note: Kumpane obviously has the same roots as companion, but it is used exclusively when such companions are engaged in illegal activity or form part of a group of outlaws. It can be used to designate a companion, implying some pride to be engaged together in struggle against the (inputs) law]. One sees [from their pictures/faces, implied in the sentence] that they are all three potential murderers. Eo ipso murderer. One doesn't have to tolerate and understand them, one must take vengeance upon them. And here the idiotic politically correct part of the western world commits its greatest sin: from pure calculation and self-interest it acts as if one mustn't only unconditionally tolerate these animals, even respect them, as if they were owed something like appreciation and human dignity. (…) They shall [should] not exist, these animals, nowhere. One has to solve this - immediately and by all means! (…)

{I asked my German speaking friend to translate - she was horrified at what the words said and was afraid to give them to me}

I agree we cannot keep on sending letters. We have not yet even received the answer from DG Justice on the Jeszenszky text book case. Yet, I believe that silence is not good. For this reason I have decided to react and hope that it will have some impact. 2013 should not become another 1931.

Open letter to MEP Lívia Járóka

NL, Oss, 9 January 2013

Dear Livia,

When I served as a Member of European Parliament (MEP) from 2004-2009, there were two other MEPs, both Roma, dealing with Roma issues: Viktória Mohasci from the Hungarian Liberal Party and you Lívia, from the Hungarian Fidesz Party. I am sure you remember our joint activities.

After 2009 our ways parted. I founded the Artists' Initiative and Viktória, as a lawyer, fought against segregation in schools. She received the Human Rights Watch Award, but in 2012 she left her country in fear. You have been reelected and to this very day you are active in the Parliament in Brussels.

On 5 January 2013, Fidesz founder member Zsolt Bayer, confident and personal friend of Prime-Minister Viktor Orbán, wrote in his column in the Magyar Hirlap:

"They (Gypsies) should not exist, those animals. Nowhere. This we have to solve – but immediately and using every means."

Lívia, I dare appealing on you to raise your voice and request Mr. Zsolt Bayer to withdraw as a Fidesz party member. I am sure that millions of Roma will respect you for this and consider you again their representative in Brussels.

Wishing you wisdom and courage in a year that has hardly begun, I send you my best regards,

Els de Groen, writer, poet

Former Member of European Parliament

Main Board Member World Artists Initiative "Khetanes"

The two parts in German have been translated in English. I suggest we copy-paste them in order to further distribute the content. Thanks, Qristina and Viola!
