Sorry I've been away, everyone, but my newest grandson keeps me VERY busy, not to mention the jealous antics of his 17-month-old brother. I think I have a few days off now so I can focus on a few things. I have a few ideas tumbling around in my head so I thought I'd better get them to you. Maybe they will strike a match somewhere.
The Press Pack: The "What" should include the following: the history of the Artists Initiative and its connection to the IRADL. I know it is a short history, but it should be there. This section should also include the mission statements of both organizations as well as short and long term goals. This would include Roma for Roma and our other efforts on behalf of the IRADL. This section should be short and precise, a the longest, a full page.
The "Who". This is a list of members, ones the press would be interested in. Since they have no idea who we are as an organization, it will help them when they see titles and contact information. While everyone in this organization is important, we must be practical. The press will repond to titles as well as numbers. They may need this information if they decide to quote someone for an article, they will need to know who said it and why they said it.
The "Where" and the "How". The next section of the pack would be a short list with descriptions of the projects we are working on. Here would be where the media could find detailed information about the Roma for Roma event or other details for each project we choose to name. This must include quotes from "people in the know" about each event. The press in the US will want a quote from someone they don't have to chase down. If we do the work for them and provide quotes, the articles will be more to our favor. I have no idea about European prodecedures, but this works wonderfully in the States.
The "Why". This one is critical and should be worded carefully. It should be written almost as a declaration, yet include VERY specific details, such as the events unfolding in the Czech Republic. I feel we need to have as many examples as possible. The press in the US has no idea what is going on, or if they do, they've chosen to ignore it. We need to let them know this is not a single episode of a group of skin-head kids who went out one night only, but an ongoing, world wide problem that affects 15 million people, both in the States and Europe. This is where we may explain how the entertainment media is hurting the Roma people and that is must be addressed with as much conviction as other minority groups. We can adress the "when" here as well, explaining that the time for the Roma is right now. We stand on the edge of a crumbling precipice. The world must take action now to save those in poverty, who are suffering physically, mentally, and emotionally at the hands of racists. We need to fulfill the guaranty the right of every child to an education, for the chance to better himself, his family, and his people.
The press pack should include pictures. Anything we can get, but more importantly, that we have the rights to. First hand pictures are the best, of course, but if we need to borrow them, we have to show we have the right to use them so the press may use them. I've been involved with things like this before where the person who supplied the image, while her intent was good, defeated our project by submitting photos that were not hers to use.
Press packs may be sent electronically, by snail mail in print, or by snail mail on DVD. Every publication is different and we will have to do the research to find out just how they want to receive it. Sending it the wrong way is the fastest way to see either an unfavorable story or no story at all.
We will need to let the press know who they can contact in each country and how to reach that person and that person must be prepared for any type of interview. I once got permission for a young to be a contact for his organization, so I listed him as a contact. He gave the WORST interview possible. When I asked him what went wrong he actually said, "you didn't say anyone would actually CONTACT me and I paniced!"
I'm probably saying stuff you already know, but since I've been bitten more than once, I am very careful on such matters. I really hate being bitten and trying ot correct such things in the press is near impossible.
As for the letters to the actors of not only Criminal Minds but other films and shows, yes, we should target them, but A&E is not the ones to contact about an episode on a Romani crime fighter or whatever. That show is put out by a major network and A&E is a smaller channel used to keep interest in the show going by running the re-runs. If I remember correctly, and I could be wrong, CBS produces Criminal Minds. We need to contact the major networks about doing something, but we need to have a strong idea before we try to pitch anything to them, otherwise they will use our idea and create something dreadful. I can see it now: "private detective solves crimes from the back of his RV, traveling around from city to city, but he consults his fortune-teller wife on all the murders because she can talk to the dead."
I think specials written about true Romani stories would be wonderful. We have some pretty interesting and misunderstood individuals among our numbers, for instance Charlie Chaplan, and they would make interesting TV. I understand former President Clinton has a few drops of Romani blood in him, but I had the opportunity to ask him face to face if he was Romani and he told me he didn't know what the word meant. When I clarified, he shook his head and said he didn't know what I was talking about. When I mentioned Clinton's blood line in a class I was teaching, one of the students said, "He's Gypsy? That explains the whole Lewinski thing!" Perhaps he isn't one to push forward.....
Those are my ideas. I am eager to get to work on the press pack if anyone has any input, suggestions, additions, subtractions, or any other words of wisdom, or better yet, wants to help! I know we have some serious writing talent out there :)

Dear all,
I just saw a short video on facebook that the romanian Roma band Taraf de Haiduks got a price overgiven by johnny depp who said that he loves the music of the band very much since they had any project together and since that time they keep the contact. May be he is an interesting person to contact?
Viola
Yes, no problem. Do you know in which group Ray Marinescu is?
x, Viola
Dear all,
just send this message to Ray Marinescu and Ciprian Necula
Dear Ray resp.
Dear Ciprian,
as you know we are looking for support from celebrities. I just saw a video in which Taraf de Haiduks got a price and the price was given to them by Johnny Depp, who knows and likes the group since they had a projekt together und they keept in contact. Do you have contacts to Taraf de Haiduks? If so please contact them and ask them to help us to make a contact with Johnny Depp.
Thank you
ViolaCiulin and All,
I am happy to take a piece of the Press Pack. Should I start with the "what"?
Would like to add that the format can be templated as a Word doc and sent to all official contact (committee coordinators, whomever the Coordinating Committee designates), with standard logo and committee names as appropriate. Should it include a list of Coordinating Committee members? I would think so.
Also, I am working on a list of contacts for the "Criminal Minds" show. Will post when I get contact info. I do think a letter should be sent to major actors and the creator and major writer, Jeff Davis, who, I have learned, wrote the "Bloodlines" script.

Dear Glenda,
Yes, please. Take whatever you are moved to work on. Yes, we can also send it around that way as well, though my poor old computer can't handle a PDF file. In the end, we can go over everything and combine or edit or anything else that needs done. I'm grateful for the help.

Here are the main people involved in the Bloodlines episode:
Criminal Minds (TV series 2005– )Bloodline (#4.13)
A family consisting of two parents and their son break into a home, kill the parents and kidnap their daughter. As the investigation proceeds, the BAU team begin to suspect that what they're dealing with is bigger than they thought.
Director:Tim MathesonOriginal Air Date:21 January 2009 |
Paget Brewster has just left the show.
Ciulin,
If there is some other way that I may assist you, please let me know.
Glenda
Dear Glenda,
If there is any part of the press pack you feel drawn to, please feel free to explore it, write about it, research it. In the next few days we will combine what we have written and make sure it flows well and edit whatever is necessary. I'm currently working on the "why" section, though I want to have lists of violations from as many countries as I can, so research will be wonderfully helpful.
I hope that helps you and thank you for helping!
Baxt,
C
